Perhaps you've heard of Thor Heyerdahl, or perhaps you think anyone named Thor carries a big hammer. Well for you unenlightened, Mr. Heyerdahl was probably one of the most badass adventurers the world has ever seen.
So badass, in fact, that in 1947, in an attempt to prove a theory about ancient peoples' ability to make long sea voyages, Mr. Heyerdahl sailed a hand-built raft 8,000 miles across the Pacific.
That raft was named the Kon-Tiki.
The inter-webs are replete with differences of opinion about whether Heyerdahl and his crew were actually wearing Eternas when they made the voyage. According to Eterna's website, they were. Regardless of the controversy, what we know for sure is that in 1958, in honor of Heyerdahl and his voyage, Eterna created the Kon-Tiki 20 line.
A great tool watch, the Eterna-matic is driven by a Calibre 1489K automatic movement which features the trademark Eterna five ball-bearing rotor system. So whether your spending the day at the beach or crossing the Pacific in a balsa-wood boat, you can count on this beaut to get the job done, and look good doing it!
This Eterna-Matic hails from the late '60s, has an original Eterna bracelet, a caseback bearing the gold icon of the Kon-Tiki itself, a stunning original blue dial and baton hands.
Steel case is approximately 38mm (excluding crown).
Overall condition: The watch is in very good condition over all. The case shows light wear marks throughout with light salt corrosion on the underside of the lugs. The original steel link bracelet is in good condition. The original blue dial and markers are in good condition and have a lovely patina.
Includes the original steel Eterna bracelet and two nylon straps from Crown and Buckle.
