Close your eyes and imagine a 1960s chronograph with a stunning patina, blued steel hands, a robust movement, and a crisp steel case with beveled lugs. Now imagine it is near mint and comes from a prominent Swiss brand. Open your eyes, because that's what we've got for you right here!
Wittnauer is a brand that hasn't been getting a lot of attention on the collector market over the past several years, and as far as we're concerned, that's just fine - it means more great watches for a relative pittance compared to their contemporaries. Once a thriving subsidiary brand of industry heavyweight Longines, the manufacturer was once responsible for some of the most beautiful dress watches and chronographs from the mid-20th century, and the piece we have for you here is a tremendous example of the latter.
From the perfectly proportioned steel case and properly spaced triple-register dial layout, to its barrel pushers, blued steel hands, luminous Dauphine hour/minute hands and the nearly mint silver tone dial with outer Tachmètre scale printed in blue, this beauty just can't be missed. Oh, and did we mention it is powered by the Wittnauer Calibre 13W, which is in actuality a renamed Valjoux 72? Or that it has its original signed crown? Yeah...this one is special.
If you've been lusting after a high-grade vintage steel chronograph, take a close look at this one, it comes with everything but a big price tag!
Stainless steel case is approximately 36mm in diameter (excluding crown). Wittnauer Reference 6002/5. Valjoux 72 Manually-Winding Chronograph Movement.
Overall condition: Case is in excellent condition over all, showing light normal signs of wear consistent with age and use. Nicely beveled lugs show no signs of over-polishing. Outer blue chapter ring and blued steel hands gorgeously set off the original silver tone dial. Original case back and signed crown.
Includes analog/shift handcrafted Highland leather strap and two 18mm Nylon Straps by Crown & Buckle.
