Why We Love it

Why We Love It

Mid century chronographs are -- categorically -- lovely, lovely things.

With balanced case sizes and dials matching the horological prowess needed to create such complicated movements in smaller, thinner sizes, we'd argue there is a lot modern watchmaking can learn from the watchmakers of yesteryear.

While many companies produced what we would now call 'classically styled' chronographs through the years, a very select few were actually creating their own movements. One such manufacturer is Angelus- a brand who has been creating in-house calibres since 1925. With this pedigree, and the incredible aesthetics of their mid-century work, Angelus has been gaining a lot of momentum in vintage collecting circles.

This timepiece is a perfect example of Angelus' capabilities as a manufacture. The silver-tone dial is a study in understated elegance with its black and red printed scales and contrasting gold feuille handset, delicate applied gold indices and Arabic numerals.

Pieces such as this Angelus are big on looks, big on horological chops, and low on cost of entry.

For now...

The Story

As vintage watch collectors, we’ve come to realize that there’s more—much more—to a watch than the name printed on the dial. Beyond mere aesthetics, the movement—the living, beating heart inside the case—is the most important component of a watch. And since many of the companies who made the watches that we sell are no longer in business, their movements can make or break the value of a watch.

In the world of chronographs, those made by Angelus are among the most desirable. Unlike Rolex, Breitling, Heuer, or Omega, who all relied on other manufactures for their movements, Angelus made theirs completely in-house.
