Why We Love It
In a market full of so-called 'special' and 'limited' edition timepieces, it becomes easy to become rather jaded and dismissive of the nomenclature; particularly when you've been collecting wristwatches as long as we have.
The NOMOS Tangente 38 For Topper Fine Jeweler's 75th Anniversary, however, rises above the noise.
NOMOS, of course, is the darling of contemporary watch collectors with an affinity for bauhaus design, quality manufacture movements, and the very German story. And Topper Fine Jewelers, located in Burlingame, CA, is one of the most well-known destinations for fans of modern horology in the United States. They have done more than most - some might say any - contemporary brick and mortar retailer to promote a true love of the hobby and for the promotion of newer brands, and their reputation as trustworthy and passionate dealers is well known throughout the community.
It made sense, then, when back in 2016 Topper announced their first collaboration on a unique limited production timepiece - the watch you see here - to commemorate 75 years in business.
In short, the model was a huge hit, selling out quickly and ultimately inspiring an ongoing collaboration with a number of other brands in subsequent editions. But none have had the lasting impact of the Tangente 38 - a true pillar of NOMOS' design language and one that leaves a lasting smile for anyone who has the same appreciation for the #watchfam community as the Topper team.
This particular example is in near-mint condition and was used for a display and promotional model, worn only a handful of times. It is numbered 39 out of 75 produced. In short, a great watch made by a great brand for great people with a great story. Don't miss it!

The little town of Glashütte, situated close to the eastern edge of Germany and home to only 7,000 people, is the birthplace of German watchmaking. Glashütte is home to brands like A. Lange & Söhne, Mühle, and Glashütte Original, all incredible brands in their own right. But there is another brand that calls this little area of Germany home, and that is NOMOS.
NOMOS was founded by Roland Schwertner on January 10th, 1990, two months after the fall of the Berlin Wall. For the next 15 years the company created multiple patents for watch components--like date mechanisms and power reserve indicators--all in preparation for the day they would build their own movements in-house. That day came in 2005 when the firm released the Tangomat, powered by an automatic caliber all their own, and at a price point that virtually no other manufacturer could touch.
As the years rolled on, NOMOS continued in that spirit of affordable self-sufficiency, one of creating in-house movements and selling their watches at prices that belie the care and quality of construction that go into producing them.
