Croton Aquamatic

Why We Love It

There is no doubt that diving watches hold a special place in the hearts of many collectors, ourselves included.

With their simple designs and reliable, robust movements, the tool watches of the 1960s and 1970s were built to accompany the adventurer across the globe and to keep time at its great heights as well as its dark depths. Yet for every Rolex Submariner, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, or Omega Seamaster, there were scores of other lesser-known names that ooze charm and merit consideration from the vintage watch enthusiast.

This Croton Aquamatic is one such example, and is in excellent condition throughout. Featuring a 34.5mm waterproof stainless steel case with 'holey lugs', a magnified date, an automatic-winding movement, and a matte grey dial with a rich patina across its luminous elements. To top it all off, this piece possesses an exotic colorway with an orange minutes track and matching seconds hand.

These are fun and wonderful timepieces, and there's no telling if and when one of these in this condition will surface again, so don't wait!

The Story

Nivada is a brand many collectors have encountered along their journey, but widespread interest has yet to take hold. Commonly distributed in the United States under the Croton name (to avoid trademark conflicts), Nivada was based in the village of Grenchen, Switzerland, with roots dating back to 1879. Sold in 2000 and relocated to Mexico, the Nivada name is still in business today, but mainly sells entry-level timepieces unworthy of further discussion.

With designs ranging from professional-grade divers to aviation-oriented chronographs, vintage Croton timepieces offer a lot of value in some pretty enticing packages.
