Tudor Submariner Lollipop 'Works Better Under Pressure'

Tudor Submariner Lollipop 'Works Better Under Pressure'

1985 Tudor “Works Better Under Pressure” Submariner ‘Lollipop’ 2-Page Ad

Before getting into some of the inner workings of this ad, it must be stated that Tudor watch advertisements are extremely uncommon. You’d think because the brand is essentially Rolex that the volume and variety of adverts would abound. This just isn’t the case. Those that do exist, particularly for sports models of the late 1970s through 1980s, are relegated to niche publications, which themselves are published in low numbers. This compound effect of limited promotion, in low-circulation magazines, makes any vintage Tudor ad a rare bird.

Sometimes when they surface, you get lucky. Take this Tudor ‘Lollipop’ Snowflake ad for example. It’s like finding a barn find watch with its original box and papers… In this case the extra accessories is that second page. Together, printed on these two sheets of vintage parchment, is a written breakdown of the watch’s robustness along with a cross-sectional diagram to aid comprehension of the facts stated. If you chose to glaze over - or not read the text at all - one glance at that thick slab of crystal and layers of mechanisms should instill faith that this watch won’t let you down should you go out an purchase it. This is an advertisement where the picture is worth 1,000 words…

Framed with both pages “floating” mounted on black sheen background with matching, reverse-cut, double-windowpane matting. Recessed in black, thin metal frame.
