Rolex 'Racing Here Tomorrow'

Rolex 'Racing Here Tomorrow'

1968 “Racing Here Tomorrow” Rolex Oyster Perpetual w/ Ford GT40s

This is a racing ad... where’s the chronograph?

In the late 1960s, much of Rolex advertising looked like this- A bold white headline against a black backdrop that began “If you were…” and went on to present a scenario accompanied by a watch suited for the task.

Usually the watch featured was actually designed for that task. For example, scuba diving and the Submariner or the GMT and a Concorde jet. But occasionally, like in this ad, the watch chosen seems a little out of its lane.

Despite the slightly non-sequitur Oyster Perpetual, the race shown above features the rebellious Ford GT40 oversteering around what we can only assume is the Daytona 500 track. A remarkable snapshot of motorsport history on its own.

But we digress... back to the watch.

At the end of the day all Rolex watches are tremendously robust. As the ad says, “any Rolex Oyster can take a Sunday punch, a douse in a grease can, or a steam bath.” Therefore a simple Oyster Perpetual with a fluted bezel is as good a model as any to be on a driver’s wrist shifting gears...

That or they just had some overstock to sell. Either way it is tremendously cool.

Framed with shade of white matting to compliment tone of paper. Solid wood black frame.
