Why We Love it

For most of its existence, Piaget operated quietly behind the proverbial horology curtain, producing some of the most mechanical movements in Switzerland.

But when the Piaget name was displayed on the dial, the brand embodied a distinguishable lavish style that became synonymous with a period of opulence, representative of the American dream in the 1960s and 70s, as well as those wore it –– Andy Warhol, Roger Moore, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elvis Presley, and many more.

This particular Piaget, a Reference 18900, builds on that iconic era and features a 29mm x 40mm 18k white gold rectangular case with a set of gently flared lugs and a signed winding crown at 3 o’clock. The silver toned dial displays a beautiful blend of satin and guilloché finishings, as well as printed ‘Arabic’ indices, an off-center subsidiary constant-seconds, a power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock and a matching ‘dauphine’ handset. It comes fitted on a black Camille Fournet alligator strap with a signed 18k white gold pin buckle and houses Piaget’s self-winding Calibre 551 movement within.

Don’t let the ‘Black Tie’ namesake fool ya. This Piaget will look equally good when paired with a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. Trust us.

Brand Story

+
Piaget is perhaps the foremost player in ultra-thin watches and watch movements in the world. Established in 1874 in Geneva and currently under the Richemont Group umbrella, the maison began producing wristwatch movements in 1911, manufacturing the Calibre 9P, its first ultra-thin, hand-wound mechanical movement, in 1957.

In 1960, Piaget released the Calibre 12P, the thinnest automatic movement in the world at the time, at just 2.3mm. It fitted many of its miniature movements into innovative timepieces hidden in coins, brooches, and cufflinks, becoming known equally for its jewelry.

The Piaget Altiplano Ultimate, released as a concept in 2018, became a full production model in 2020. At just 2mm thick, it took the record for thinnest watch on Earth. Today, Piaget continues to innovate in the realm of ultra-thin watchmaking, creating ultra-thin tourbillons, retrograde movements, and more.
