Why We Love It
Longines is one of those brands that, at least in the modern age of watch collecting, hasn't always received the attention it deserves.
... until now.
At 42mm, the stainless steel compression case is gives off a rugged, durable, and modern profile that was well ahead of its time. Now, its worth noting from a technical standpoint, the compressor case wasn’t any better at preventing water intrusion than a screw-down crown. But it was one attempt at improving the functionality of a watch that was built to do a job first and foremost. Despite their functional limitations, and due to their good looks, compressor cases proved to be popular during the 1960s.
For many collectors who have gone down the Submariner or the Seamaster route - a Longines Compressor is among the first pieces sought when looking for an off the beaten path choice.
Longines is a brand that needs no introduction. Now closely associated with Omega under the Swatch Group umbrella, the brand was a staple of the Swiss watchmaking industry throughout the 20th century. They are well-known for their broad assortment of lines and designs, as well as their close association with equestrian sports.
Founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, Longines was at the sharp end of the watchmaking spear. Constantly innovating, they were a company to be compared with the other major Swiss manufactures. By 1919, Longines was the official supplier of timepieces for the International Aeronautical Federation, working to develop highly accurate navigation chronometers for many of the era's great aviation pioneers.
