Why We Love It
The Rolex Submariner is a classic, and there’s good reason why almost every collector winds up with a vintage Rolex sports model in their stash - these are timeless, tough, do-anything, go-anywhere tool watches.
Rolex has been producing Submariners uninterrupted since the watch was introduced in 1953, and while those first Big Crown subs are truly incredible pieces, most of us will have to wait for our lottery numbers to hit to get one of those strapped to our wrist.
This Reference 5513 represents the end of an era - its serial dates it to circa 1984 and it features a glossy black dial with tritium luminescent elements, raised and surrounded by white gold. The dial shows a 'spidering' effect throughout - a crinkling effect in the gloss lacquer that mimics the appearance of a spider's web. Its luminous indices and hands remain have developed a rich, creamy patination, which gives it a perfect look. It has a professionally refinished case and comes fitted with one of our new leather straps.
A perfect all-around neo-vintage Submariner with tons of character and classic proportions!
The Reference 5513 is arguably one of the most desirable examples of Submariner out there. Produced from 1962 until 1989, the Reference 5513 is probably the longest-running model of Rolex ever. Following on the heels of the 5512, the 5513 was the second reference of Sub to feature crown guards.
However, due to the 5512’s relative rarity on the collector’s circuit, it’s the 5513 that has come to typify vintage no-date Subs in the minds of collectors.
Long viewed by collectors as the purest expression of Submariner, the 5513 is the last great no-date Sub. Although Rolex still makes Submariners without dates, the 5513 retains the smaller diameter (39mm) case and slimmer proportions that distinguish vintage Submariners from modern.
Stainless steel Oyster case is approximately 39mm (excluding the crown). Automatic-winding movement by Rolex. Rolex Reference 5513. Circa 1984.
Overall Condition: The case is in excellent condition overall showing professional refinishing and only faint signs of wear from use. Luminous gloss black dial shows spidering with aged luminous indices and matching handset. Signed Trip-Lock crown.
