Tiffany & Co - Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700

Tiffany & Co - Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700

1977 Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700 w/ Tiffany & Co. Signed Dial

With the advertisement's dimensions being just 4 3/4” x 5 1/4” it may be on the smaller side, but there’s nothing minor about its significance…

First, it’s one of the earliest - if not THE first ad - featuring the Nautilus (from May 1977). Set aside that historical fact and then consider it also has something else special going for it… Being a Tiffany & Co. advertisement (technically not an ad by Patek Philippe) the model featured bears the name of the jeweler - something forty-plus years ago was no big deal, but today is a very big deal. The relationship between Patek and Tiffany goes way back and so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Patek looked to Tiffany to share and sell this new model. The headline, “Tiffany Introduces The Nautilus” is perhaps a clue that Patek did indeed turn to their longtime partner and world-renowned jeweler, Tiffany & Co., to endorse their newest design. By Tiffany putting their stamp of approval (literally) on the Nautilus, no doubt this made more gentleman confident to purchase (both Patek clients and new customers to the brand).

A version of this ad does exist (from the 1980s), but it differs from this particular version in that it also includes the ladies model. This ad is extra-special in that it solely features the men’s Nautilus Reference 3700. Also, of note, the 1980s ad lists the price of the Reference 3700 at $7,500. In this much earlier ad, you’ll notice the price is $2,350…

Framed with entire ad clipping “floating” mounted on dark grey background with reverse-cut “Tiffany Blue” matting for obvious reasons… Black, solid wood frame.
