Why We Love It
Much like man's early forays into flight, this watch had a little bit of a bumpy start. Despite the troll-driven controversy and noise surrounding its initial launch in 2014, there is a lot to love about this watch and the passionate people who created it.
In 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made history when they conducted the first successful flight of a powered 'heavier-than-air' aircraft. That plane, the Wright Flyer 1, weighed 605 pounds and was constructed from a combination of wood, steel, cast aluminum and woven cotton cloth. It is from this historical machine -- and momentous occasion --that the Bremont Wright Flyer draws its inspiration.
Endeavoring to pay homage to this pioneering moment in aviation history, Bremont incorporated something truly special into the 300 examples of this timepiece. Suspended within the propeller-inspired rotor is an actual piece of the cotton fabric used in the Wright Brother's famous aircraft-- when Bremont pays homage, they go straight to the source!
Featuring a classically-designed black dial with printed Arabic indices and stylized hands with aged luminous material, the Wright Flyer is built into the massively over-engineered and totally unique Trip-Tick case design for which Bremont has come to be known.
Furthermore, Bremont used the development of this Calibre, the BWC/01, as a test-bed for their future efforts - bringing properly scaled and vertically-integrated watchmaking back to the United Kingdom. In many ways, the Wright Flyer represented a shift in their business, and one that comes with sincere appreciation for the horological arts.
This particular example comes with its complete full set and incredible presentation box, as well as its original signed leather strap and deployant buckle. In other words, a collector's dream.
Plus, did we mention that this watch has a piece of the very first airplane in it? Seriously. Thats just cool as hell.
Bremont is a true rarity in the modern timepiece industry. Truth be told, Bremont is the only company currently working to bring true watch making back to Britain's shores at scale- and that is something that we can really get behind.
Independently owned, Bremont produces incredibly high quality purpose-built timepieces in Great Britain with a distinctively aeronautical theme.
Bremont's collection showcases the passion for engineering and aviation that the owners, the appropriately named Nick & Giles English, hold close to their hearts.
