Why We Love It
The Omega Seamaster 1200 can be most effectively described with a single word:
With a massive 55mm asymmetric steel case, this modern homage to the 1960s Seamaster 600 'Plongeur Professional' is nothing if not overbuilt. The amount of stainless steel surrounding the case makes it extremely heavy (9.5 ounces).
Surrounding the dial is an oversized sapphire dive-timing bezel which is locked in place unless the orange button located on the top left corner of the case is depressed. Giving the watch additional overkill factor is a helium escape valve, located under the bezel locking mechanism and a screw-locking mechanism for the crown protecting case.
This particular example shows light signs of use consistent with its raison d être, as well as its complete original kit and a few spare dive straps to boot. With summer right around the corner, we can't think of a cooler watch to strap on and get wet!
The year was 1970. Omega released the Seamaster Professional 600, an iconic oversized diving watch built into a monocoque steel case. Its style could not be mistaken for any other watch, with a distinct bezel locking mechanism.
Omega re-released a modern interpretation of the Seamaster 600 - now referred to as a Seamaster 1200 - in 2009. With even greater water resistance - and the addition of a helium escape valve, the current SM1200 'PloProf' is the mother of all badass diving watches!
Asymmetric stainless steel case is approximately 55mm x 48mm (excluding the crown). Omega Reference 188.8.131.52.01.001. Omega automatic winding Calibre 8500 co-axial movement. Circa 2011.
Overall Condition: The case is in very good condition showing some signs of wear from use. Luminous glossy black dial is in as-new condition. Luminous handset. Features a sapphire bezel assembly with locking mechanism and helium escape valve.
Includes Omega signed 'shark mesh' bracelet with deployant clasp. Also includes spare Omega-signed black and orange rubber dive straps, inner and outer boxes, warranty card dating to 2011, original purchase receipt, instructional booklet, wallet, and hang tag.
