Omega Suveran

Omega Suveran

Why We Love It

For collectors who prefer dressier watches, Omega offers a multitude of fantastic pieces. With hundreds of different vintage variations and models, there truly is something for everyone.

While Omega Geneve and Seamaster models are relatively plentiful on today's market, this is something quite different. This is the Omega 'Suveran' (translation: Sovereign). These unusually named watches were produced during World War II and were sold directly and exclusively by the Swedish government in an effort to help their crippled economy. It is obviously high on design, but also has one of the more interesting stories in vintage Omega.

A 35mm stainless steel case houses a silver toned dial that has developed a beautiful patina and features gold foil Roman numerals serving as markers for the even hours which shine brilliantly in direct light. Paired with steel feuille hands and a sub-seconds register at 6:00, its design reminds us that the simple, elegant, and restrained design language of the mid-century is nothing short of brilliant.

HODINKEE wrote about these unusual watches over a decade ago, so pop on over and read more about their story HERE - then come back and make this lovely historical model yours!

The Story

Though Omega is perhaps best-known for its sporty Speedmaster or Seamaster lines, the brand has been releasing—quietly and without much fanfare—dress watches with simple function-forward designs distinctive enough to catch the eye of any purist.
