Rolex Submariner 'Gilt'

Rolex Submariner 'Gilt'

Why We Love It

From a purist perspective, no date Submariner's are the ones to own. But for those that seek a little more rarified air - we have just the thing.

Featuring a rare and stunning glossy gilt dial, this 5513 is truly a sight to see in the metal. The way in which the gold text shines catches the light can't really be conveyed until viewed in person. Fitted on a stretch rivet Oyster bracelet, this 5513 dates roughly to the 1970s and the dial is nearly mint!

With the 5513 being considered as last and best no-date Sub, its no wonder collectors command high premiums for them.

The Story

The Reference 5513 is arguably one of the most desirable examples of Submariner out there. Produced from 1962 until 1989, the Reference 5513 is probably the longest-running model of Rolex ever. Following on the heels of the 5512, the 5513 was the second reference of Sub to feature crown guards.

However, due to the 5512’s relative rarity on the collector’s circuit, it’s the 5513 that has come to typify vintage no-date Subs in the minds of collectors.

Long viewed by collectors as the purest expression of Submariner, the 5513 is the last great no-date Sub. Although Rolex still makes Submariners without dates, the 5513 retains the smaller diameter (39mm) case and slimmer proportions that distinguish vintage Submariners from modern.
