Why We Love It
The Rolex Datejust isn't just a classic. Its the classic.
While we come across plenty of Datejusts, finding examples with cases that have not been polished away or damaged dials - that is another thing entirely.
This 36mm two-tone beauty features a beautiful matte white dial with black roman numerals. The roman numerals on the dial lending the watch its nickname - "Buckley". Additionally, the tritium plots and hands show a rich, even patination.
If you are looking for a slightly more unique take on the best selling Rolex model in history- this is might just be the Datejust for you.
When you think of Rolex, your first thoughts may be the unmistakable GMT Master with its two-tone "Pepsi" bezel, the aviator's timepiece designed for Pan-Am pilots and transatlantic jet flights. Or you might imagine the form-follows-function Explorer I, the watch designed for mountaineers and tested under the most extreme conditions on earth. Mostly likely, you'll think of the Submariner, the legendary diver by which all others are measured.
There's no denying that a Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic watches of the last 60 years, but the same can easily be said about its sibling, the Datejust. Designed for the fluctuating conditions faced in everyday wear, the Datejust was the world's first wristwatch ever to incorporate a date function, and has been worn proudly by presidents, athletes and movie stars - and probably your grandfather. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; with perfect proportions, a robust automatic movement and timeless styling, the Rolex Datejust may simply be the most versatile and wearable watch ever designed.
Two tone steel and yellow gold Oyster case is approximately 36mm (excluding the crown). Rolex automatic-winding movement. Circa 1970.
Overall Condition: The case is in excellent condition overall showing normal signs of wear consistent with age and use. Tritium luminous white 'Buckley' dial is excellent condition with painted Roman numerals, lightly patinated luminous plots and matching black painted handset. Signed crown.
Includes two tone Jubilee bracelet (6251H/55) with signed Big Crown clasp.
