Gerald Genta Eyeglasses

Gerald Genta Eyeglasses

Why We Love It

While our main focus here at Analog/Shift is to curate a collection of exceptional vintage wristwatches, other things catch our eyes and make us say, "Wow, we need that on our site." And while most of these non-wristwatch items do, in fact, tick--or are otherwise horological in nature, such as straps and other wristwatch paraphernalia--there comes a time when certain exceptions need to be made. That time, ladies and gentlemen, is now.

Here we have a pair of NOS (new old stock), never worn, Gerald Genta gold frame eyeglasses with orange translucent acetate temples. These feature the notable Gerald Genta branding on the hinges, bridge and sticker that still remains intact on the glass. Additionally, they come equipped with the inner and outer boxes, leather storage pouch, multilingual booklet and international warranty certificate.

Can you say, iconic? 😎

The Story

You'd be forgiven for thinking that Gerald Genta only designed watches. The man's oeuvre encompasses such horological heavy-hitters as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, or the Universal Genève Polerouter, or the Patek Philippe Nautilus, or… well, we could go on, but the fact is, when it comes to watches, the man is a legend. Full stop.

But what happens when a legend grows weary of creating the very thing that gave him success?

He designs something else, of course--and in Genta’s case, that something else happened to be eyeglasses. From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, Genta--in partnership with Orama--released a line of glasses in the Japanese market under his own name. With frames of precious metal, they typify 1970s Disco chic as well as Genta’s own wry style.
