The original Carrera was one of Jack Heuer’s most passionate projects, and his design ethos for this watch can be summed up in one word: legibility. Jack wanted a watch that was stylish and functional, a watch that gives you everything you need and nothing you don’t.
For a watch designed in the early 1960s, the Carrera remains a stunner, proving the brilliance of Jack’s design philosophy. A clean dial never goes out of style, and it makes the Carrera an easy watch to dress up or down. At 36mm, the case wears extremely well on the modern wrist, its long beveled lugs making it feel a bit beefier while still slipping easily under a cuff.
These early Carreras were produced in a variety of styles with a range of dial configurations, including standard black (N) and silver (S) dials, along with the rarer, colored Tachy (T) and Decimal (D) variants proving to be amongst the rarest. Available in double and triple register configurations, these beautiful first generation models have recently seen a surge in interest in the collector community, no doubt due to their incredible looks, story, and value proposition - especially when comparing to those other 60's sport chronographs.
Manufactured in the late 60s, this particular Carrera, a Reference 2456T, is perhaps the most uncommon configuration that Heuer produced. Clad in a solid 18K yellow gold case, this piece is powered by the iconic, manually-wound Valjoux 72 chronograph movement, and features a silver sunburst dial with a red Tachymetre scale and triple subsidiary register layout. Solid gold 60s Carreras virtually never show up on the market, and we have never seen one with the lovely "T" dial configuration!
In excellent original condition throughout, this 2456T has a sharp case with crisp, sharp lugs, an lovely patinated dial and handset, original gold barrel pushers and a signed Heuer crown. It comes fitted on a beautiful handmade suede strap with a matching solid gold Heuer buckle. While we have been fortunate to have a number of rare early Heuers come through our shop these past few years, this is the very first example of this reference that we've been able to get our hands on, and we're thrilled to make it available for your consideration.
The last solid gold Carrera to hit the market sold in moments, and we don't expect this one to last much longer, so don't miss it!
