Kobold Soarway Seal Diver

Kobold Soarway Seal Diver

Why We Love It

Its been a minute since we've had a Kobold come through our doors, probably because Kobold owners LOVE their watches, and don't often give them up!

This 42mm Titanium timepiece set the bar for the micro-brand tool watch movement in the early 2000s, and many a collector got into the hobby lusting after these wonderful beastly things. Not only was Kobold using top-notch materials and no-nonsense design, but their marketing materials were TOPS. (See last image!)

What may at first appear simple in design will ultimately impress upon closer inspection. That's when the Seal's many intricate design queues, such a the beveled edges on its lugs and the hand-applied brushed surface finish, will raise the eyebrows of even the most avid watch aficionados. Sure, the era of giant, no-nonsense tool watches dominating the collector conversation may have largely passed by, but if you're anything like us, a little nostalgia - and a badass diver for weekend shenanigans are essential.

So maybe it is time, time to Seal the deal (see what we did there?)

The Story

Founded in 1998, KOBOLD is one of the world's last independent, family-owned luxury goods manufacturers. They are located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Seal is the most iconic Kobold watch. Designed by James Gandolfini, the late actor and Kobold brand ambassador, the Seal has been in production since 2004. Often imitated but never successfully copied, the legendary Seal has a striking look thanks to its oversized rotating bezel and small face. The heft of the Seal is due to its bulk -43mm diameter and 17mm height- and its internal soft iron core, which protects its Swiss automatic-winding mechanism from the effects of magnetism.

The Kobold Seal was designed, engineered, fabricated, assembled and tested in the United States from U.S. and imported components.
