This is one of those cases in which a timepiece is worth way more than the sum of its parts...except for some reason or another no one has figured that out yet.
What you are looking at is a Tudor reference 7017/0- and despite its relatively simple underpinnings (Oyster Case, ETA movement) this piece manages to be incredibly cool without shouting anything obnoxiously.
A unique combination of features differentiates this incredibly cool model from its much more common Rolex siblings. Built on a 39mm steel case, the 7017 features both day and date functionality whereas Rolex Day Dates (commonly known as "Presidents") were only offered in a 36mm Oyster Case, and never in steel. The added size gives the 7017 a full size "Jumbo" moniker amongst collectors, and is infinitely more wearable for many with a case roughly the same size as a Submariner.
This particular piece dates from the 70s, and is particularly appealing with a stunning slate blue sunburst dial. It is in excellent original condition, featuring beautifully patinated hands and a sharp case. It has recently come back from a full mechanical overhaul and is in top condition inside and out - no question it is one of the nicest we've seen.
With the combination of the oversize steel case and Day/Date functionality, this awesome Tudor blurs the lines between a dress piece and sports watch, a combination that makes it one of the most desirable vintage Tudors on the market. Despite this, values are still incredibly reasonable, and if you can find one in good shape you should pick it up while you can (hint, hint)!
Steel Oyster Case is approximately 39mm in diameter (excluding the crown). Tudor Reference 7017/0
Overall condition: Case is in great condition overall, showing only light signs of wear from age and use. It retains sharp lugs and shows no signs of over-polishing. The original dial is in excellent condition with no staining or scratching, showing an even patination across the luminous elements. Original hands with matching patina. Original Rolex signed case back and crown.
Includes pictured leather strap with contrast stitching and two 20mm nylon straps by Crown and Buckle.
