SubmitWhy We Love It
The Omega Seamaster is probably Omega’s most enduring and versatile watch. Many collectors start out with Seamasters, and many continue to collect them over the years. Such is their unending appeal.
While some might favor the sporty Seamaster 300, elegant gold-capped versions like this Reference 2846 are the perfect antidote to a case of dress watch blues. From the patinated gold-tone dial to the fluted crown and dark marker indices, the watch oozes mid-century charm. But as with all Seamasters, this watch was initially waterproof, and the robust self-winding Calibre 501 movement makes it a breeze to wear every day.
Which, after all, is exactly what you’re supposed to do with a watch this nice.
The Story
Since the Seamaster’s launch in 1948, it has been the vibrant, beating heart of Omega's collection. The key to its longevity, in part, lies in its adaptability. It comes in dive watch models, which were worn by professional divers (and James Bond), or dress models favored by the likes of Mad Men’s Don Draper.
In many ways, the Seamaster can be seen as Omega's counterpart to Rolex’s Datejust. They have many similarities: a waterproof case, in steel or gold, with slim proportions. However, what gives the Seamaster an edge over the Datejust is its affordability.
Whether steel and sporty or gold and glimmering, there’s truly a Seamaster for every taste, every budget, and every wrist.
