Here at analog/shift, we have a passion for timepieces with tradition, style and value. When these elements combine, an icon is formed, and it is hard to get more iconic than the brand with the big crown - Rolex.
When you think of Rolex, your first thoughts may be to its unforgettable GMT Master with its two-tone "Pepsi" bezel, the aviator's timepiece designed with Pan-Am pilots and transatlantic jet flights in mind. Or it might go to the form-follows-function Explorer I, the watch designed for mountaineers and tested under the most extreme conditions on earth. But it probably goes to the Submariner, the legendary diver by which all others are measured.
There's no denying that a Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic watches of the last 60 years, but the same can easily be said about its diminutive sibling, the Datejust. Designed for the extreme conditions faced in everyday wear, the Datejust was the world's first wristwatch ever to incorporate a date function, and has been worn proudly by presidents, athletes and movie stars - and probably your grandfather. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; with perfect portions, a robust automatic movement and timeless styling, the Rolex Datejust may simply be the most versatile and wearable watch ever designed.
This particular Datejust (ref. 1603) dates from approximately 1970 and features a classic 36mm Oyster case, nearly flawless silver sunburst dial and a crisp machine-turned steel bezel. This is a simply stunning vintage piece, and is arguably the only watch a modern gentleman would ever need.

Steel oyster case is approximately 36mm (excluding the crown). Rolex Reference 1603. Rolex Calibre 1570 Automatic Movement. Circa 1970.
Overall Condition: Steel case is in fantastic condition overall, with very sharp lugs and no signs of over-polishing. Original dial is in great condition with a light, even patination and no noteworthy blemishes. Original hands show light oxidation to the polished elements and a creamy darkening to the luminous inserts. Original case back and Rolex signed crown.
Includes one brown leather strap and two 20mm nylon straps by Crown and Buckle.
