It is perhaps one of the greatest injustices in horology that women's wristwatches are so commonly treated as lesser objects, resulting in far fewer iconic designs worth collecting.
This is truly a shame, and probably one of the reasons why fashionable ladies with a horological inclination have taken to wearing men's watches in the past decade. It seems that just now brands are getting the memo, and a few manufactures (notably Vacheron Constantin and Parmigiani Fleurier) have begun producing proper ladies watches again - you know, those ones that eschew faux-gold, not-so-precious stones and batteries for the real thing: mechanical, wearable art. Long, long overdue. Still, when it comes to vintage options for ladies, the pickings can be slim, quite the opposite from men's.
Fortunately there are things like this to soften the blow: A Ladies Rolex Oyster Precision
Try as we might, we cannot think of another brand that has manufactured mechanical ladies timepieces as consistently as Rolex. Every bit as iconic as their masculine counterparts, ladies' sized Rolexes feature a miniaturized (25mm) Oyster case, and were offered in a range of materials and nearly innumerable dial configurations since. Out of style for sometime as large, obnoxious fashion dangles took center stage, these petite and elegant timepieces are once again making a comeback - or perhaps just proving that they never left!
The example we have here is an absolutely stunning steel example, fitted with a riveted Oyster bracelet and stylized leaf hands. With a nicely patinated silver-tone dial, original case back, crown, this late 60s model is a ladies timepiece that us menwould be envious of.
Steel Oyster Case is approximately 26mm (excluding the crown). Rolex Reference 6410. Rolex Manual Winding Movement.
Overall condition: Case is in great condition over all, with crisp edges and no noteworthy blemishes. Silver sunburst dial shows even patination and light markings from age and wear. Original hands are in similarly patinated condition. Case back shows some light tool markings. Original signed crown.
Includes riveted Oyster bracelet (7204/66) with Rolex signed clasp.
