The Rolex Datejust is the undisputed favorite among many vintage Rolex collectors. The array of dial colors, hand variations and the option of a white gold or stainless steel bezel make the Datejust an incredibly versatile timepiece that could sate just about any collector or enthusiast.
But sometimes you want something just a little different, something that will stand out and something that will prove that you have style that demands moving out of the box.
Produced from 1963 to 1980, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Reference 1501 is a horological cousin to the Datejust that sports some riffs of the more commonly recognizable design of the Ref. 1601/1603. Most noticeable is the milled bezel, a gorgeous little nod to the bezels found on both the Datejusts (especially the steel ones) and Turn-O-Graphs of the era, that immediately places the watch, letting wrist-oglers know that you're packing something a little different. Artfully designed, the fixed bezel is raised at hour intervals with hash marks in between, drawing the eye outward from the center, producing a wonderful radiant visual effect.
This particular execution, which is housed in a 14k gold Oyster case and dates to about 1972, comes with a lovely linen-textured dial that further adds to its eye-catching look. And with its matching gold baton hands and stick markers, it achieves a subtle two-tone effect without being over bearing or too loud on the wrist.
Whether its the dependability or provenance of the Rolex brand you're looking for or a classy and stylish timepiece to keep your wrist warm, look no further.
