When you think of Rolex, your first thoughts may be of the brand's unforgettable GMT Master with its two-tone "Pepsi" bezel, the aviator's timepiece designed with Pan-Am pilots and transatlantic jet flights in mind. Or you might recall the form-follows-function Explorer I, the watch designed for mountaineers and tested under the most extreme conditions on earth. But probably it goes to the Submariner, the legendary diver by which all others are measured.
There's no denying that a Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic watches of the last 60 years, but the same can easily be said about its diminutive siblings in the Oyster series. Designed for everyday wear, these timepieces were made as high grade affordable gentleman's watches in an era when owning a Swiss watch from any brand - never mind a Rolex - was a privilege far fewer could enjoy than today.
With perfect proportions, a robust manually winding movement and timeless styling, the Oyster may simply be the most versatile and wearable watches ever designed. This particular model, a "boy's sized" Oyster Speedking Reference 6420, dates from approximately 1957 and features a 30mm steel Oyster case, beautiful matte black dial with light tropical patina, and a smooth steel bezel.
Finished with gold hour markers and hands, this Speedking falls between the mini-scaled ladies models and the men's line, making it perfect for smaller wrists of both sexes. We haven't seen another one of these with such a beautiful dial, so don't drag your feet!
Steel oyster case is approximately 30mm (excluding the crown). Rolex Reference 6420. Calibre 1210 Manually-Wound Movement. Circa 1957.
Overall Condition: Case is in very good condition over all, showing only light signs of wear from age and use. Original matte black dial shows a beautiful light tropical patination throughout. Hands show light oxidation from age. Original date-stamped case back and signed crown.
Includes black leather strap with contrast stitching.
