Rolex Submariner

Rolex Submariner

Patina. It’s what sets two identical references apart, and it’s what makes every vintage watch unique. It can be too light, it can be too heavy, but sometimes it’s just perfect. It lets the watch show its age and gives it its charm.

To our eyes, this 5513 is damn near the perfect Submariner. Forget about all the meters first, pre-COMEX, Mark II, blah, blah nonsense. Stop and just look at the watch. Stare at it. How does it make you feel? If it hits you on an emotional level and you feel like you can’t live without owning this beautiful machine, then it’s the right watch for you.

That’s how this watch hit us.

We’ve talked about the Submariner plenty of times (HERE), and the fact that it’s a classic sports watch goes without saying. You know it’s a must have in every collection, and you know that it offers everything that you could ask for in a kickass vintage daily wearer. You also know that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find great examples, as so many have been turned into mere shells of their former selves, polished to death and swapped for service dials and hands.

With sharp lugs, the deep creamy patina and the ghosted, dark grey bezel, this Sub sets the bar for what you should be looking for in a vintage sport Rolex.

Stainless Steel Oyster case is approximately 40mm (excluding crown). Rolex Reference 5513. Circa 1978.

Overall Condition: The case is in excellent condition over all, with sharp, thick lugs and only very light wear marks visible throughout. The original matte dial is in superb condition with stunning creamy patina. Original matching hands. The original bezel has faded to a lovely dark grey. Replacement 'pearl.' Original crown and case back.

Includes Oyster Reference 93150 bracelet and two 20mm nylon straps by Crown and Buckle.
